From the engine room to the data hall
Matthew Lawrence is a U.S. Navy veteran who served as a Machinist’s Mate (Nuclear), MMN2, in the naval nuclear propulsion program from 2002 to 2007. His Navy career was in engineering, standing watch and maintaining the mechanical systems that keep a nuclear propulsion plant running safely, where procedural compliance, questioning attitude, and forceful backup are a way of life.
After the Navy, Matthew spent nine years in commercial nuclear power, one year in grid sub-transmission and distribution operations, and nearly ten years (and counting) in data center critical operations. He has worked the kinds of events CIM prepares you to talk about: abnormal conditions, emergency procedure response, and long, demanding outages, where calm, process-driven teams are what keep people safe and systems online.
He founded Critical Interview Mastery to help operators and technicians show hiring teams what they already know how to do. CIM’s approach combines the high reliability organization (HRO) mindset with the STAR+ method: Situation, Task, Action, Result, plus a Reliability Takeaway. The goal is simple: help you interview like the reliable operator you are.
