- Independent: no employer ties
For candidates who keep critical systems running
Hiring panels in power generation and critical facilities want proof you’ll keep people safe and the plant or site online when conditions go abnormal. CIM helps you show it.
Power plant candidates
Operators and technicians in nuclear, gas, coal, hydro, and renewables preparing for control room, field, and maintenance interviews.
Data center candidates
Critical facilities technicians, operations engineers, and shift leads moving into or up within colocation, hyperscale, and enterprise sites.
Navy nukes & transitioning veterans
Turn watchstanding, procedural compliance, and casualty drills into answers a civilian hiring panel understands, without the acronyms.
- Military-to-civilian translation
- Stories that show judgment, not jargon
- Coached by someone who made the same move

STAR+ and the HRO mindset
Most candidates know STAR. Reliable operators add one more line: the +, a reliability takeaway that shows how you operate when it matters.
What the HRO mindset looks like in an answer
- Procedural compliance: procedures as protection, not paperwork
- Questioning attitude: when in doubt, stop and check
- Clear, closed-loop communication and early escalation
- Owning mistakes and reporting early
- Conservative decisions under pressure
For scenario questions, CIM teaches the 5-Step Anomaly Response: recognize and verify, protect people, stabilize using the governing procedure, communicate and escalate, then document, review, and learn.
Start small. Go deeper when you’re ready.

Coached by an operator, not a career-advice generalist
Matthew Lawrence served in the Navy’s nuclear propulsion program, standing watch and maintaining the mechanical systems that keep a propulsion plant running safely. He then spent nine years in commercial nuclear power, a year in grid operations, and nearly ten years in data center critical operations.
He has worked the kinds of events interviewers ask about: abnormal conditions, emergency procedure response, and long, demanding outages. He founded CIM to help operators and technicians show hiring teams what they already know how to do.
